THESSALONIKI METRO TECHNICAL CONSULTANT

OMEK ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS S.A. as a member of the Consortium of Thessaloniki Metro Consultant TMC, participated in the duties of Technical Consultant, in the development and implementation of project quality management systems, in the control of Designs, Schedules, Certifications and in the Supervision of Construction of the Thessaloniki Metro.

The scope included 

  • Design and construction of the Thessaloniki Metro (Contract CON 06/004), approximately 9.6 km long with 13 stations (“New Railway Station”, “Demokratias”, “Venizelos”, “Agia Sofia”, “Fountain”, “University”, “Papafi”, “Euclidis”, “Fleming”, “Analipsi”, “Patrikios”, “Voulgari” and “Nea Elvetia”).
  • Design and supervision of the construction of the Metro Extension to Kalamaria (Contract CON 002/13), 4.77 km long with 5 stations (“Nomarchia”, “Kalamaria”, “Aretsou”, “Nea Krini” and “Mikra”).

More specifically, OMEK CONSULTING ENGINEERS S.A. dealt with the following items:

  •  Participation in the organization, coordination and supervision of construction works of civil engineering projects (stations, tunnels, junctions, intersections and depots) with emphasis on the special issues of diaphragm walls, the use of TBM – EPB, as well as providing advice on the methods, cost and construction time of the projects. Design and supervision of the construction of the train depot / repair base / operation control center / administration building.
  • Installation of escalators at certain stations of the project, as well as coordination and research of the rolling stock, electromechanical and railway systems.
  • Risk Assessment of structures located in the influence zone of Thessaloniki Metro. Investigation of building response to excavation of tunnels and stations and necessary measures for building safety. Building inspections.
  • Support in the review of electromechanical and railway systems, as well as rolling stock Designs. Participation in the evaluation of the CBTC signaling system.
  • Quality Assurance & Quality Control: Review and improvement of quality assurance and quality control procedures for projects, support in auditing quality assurance systems and quality control of contractors, Training of personnel in quality assurance and quality control procedures and support in ISO certification procedures.

OMEK staff were fully integrated in the ATTIKO METRO system. conducted design reviews and supervision of large-scale structural and E/M metro works and contributed to the assurance and quality control procedures and training of ATTIKO METRO   personnel.
