CENTRAL GREECE MOTORWAY INDEPENDENT ENGINEER COMPLETED – CONNECTING GREECE

The North Section of the E65 Motorway was officially opened to traffic on 24 July 2026, marking the completion of one of the most significant motorway infrastructure projects undertaken in Greece. The project was delivered following the issuance of the Works Completion Certificate by the Independent Engineer Joint Venture AECOM Infrastructure & Environment UK Ltd – OMEK S.A.

The successful completion of the North Section concludes the delivery of the E65 motorway corridor, extending from the PATHE Motorway Interchange near Lamia to the Egnatia Motorway Interchange and forming one of the most strategic road links in the national transport network. The project includes major technical infrastructure such as interchanges, tunnels, bridges, toll stations, operation and maintenance centers, and intelligent transportation systems.

For more than three decades, OMEK has supported the design, supervision, management and delivery of major infrastructure projects across Greece. The completion of the E65 North Section further strengthens a track record that includes approximately 1,000 km of motorway infrastructure, delivered through roles spanning Independent Engineer, Supervision Consultant and Project Management services.

OMEK Consulting Engineers S.A., acting as a member of the Independent Engineer Joint Venture with AECOM Infrastructure & Environment UK Ltd, played a key role in supporting the successful delivery of the project through comprehensive engineering, supervision, auditing, quality management and construction monitoring services.

The completion of the motorway section concludes a long and demanding engineering effort and contributes substantially to improving connectivity, mobility and regional development throughout Central and Northern Greece.

Throughout the implementation period, OMEK’s multidisciplinary team provided specialized technical services including:

  • Independent engineering services
  • Design review and verification
  • Construction supervision and auditing
  • Quality assurance and quality control monitoring
  • Cost and schedule management
  • Topographical inspections and verification
  • Environmental compliance auditing

In addition, under its role as Independent Engineer, OMEK was responsible for reviewing and approving final designs, monitoring project schedules and costs, overseeing the implementation of the Project Quality Management System, environmental and health & safety requirements, reviewing testing programmes and operational procedures, verifying incorporated materials, supervising construction activities and issuing the relevant Works Completion Certifications in accordance with the Concession Agreement.
